Paula has been practicing individual cross-border tax since 2011. She enjoys helping clients navigate the intricacies of U.S. and Canadian personal tax so they can make well-informed decisions suitable to their circumstances. She wants to make cross-border tax easy to understand and less daunting for the clients she serves.
She joined SKL Tax for the opportunity to give personalized service to clients in a warm and friendly environment. She finds the culture at SKL Tax unique with its relaxed and homey atmosphere where everyone is approachable and clients can feel comfortable.
She started her career at a small public practice firm providing U.S. and Canadian tax compliance services to a wide array of clients from different industries. She also worked for a mid-size national firm on various tax planning and consulting engagements concerning residency, expatriation, investments, gifting, sale of home, and the complex rules from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 with respect to foreign (non-US) corporations.
Her educational background is a Bachelor of Technology in Accounting at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) and a Chartered Professional Accountant designation (through the Certified General Accountant legacy program).
Outside of work, she likes to be active through swimming, running, hiking, and stand-up paddle boarding. She also gets inspiration from reading personal development books.
