Job Title: Senior Accountant – Cross-Border Personal Tax

Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant – Cross-Border Personal Tax will focus on providing tax compliance, planning, and advisory services to individuals navigating the complexities of both the U.S. and Canadian tax systems. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in the tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements of both countries and will assist clients in ensuring compliance with both U.S. and Canadian tax obligations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review tax returns for individuals with U.S.-Canada cross-border tax issues, including compliance with both U.S. and Canadian tax laws.
- Conduct tax research and stay up-to-date with changes in tax laws and regulations, advising clients on the impact of those changes.
- Liaise with clients to gather necessary documentation, communicate tax matters, and ensure the timely delivery of services.
- Prepare responses to tax notices, audits, and inquiries.
- Collaborate with clients to gather necessary information, explain complex tax matters, and ensure that all filings are completed accurately and on time.
- Mentor and guide junior staff, providing training and feedback to foster their development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (one or more of Canadian CPA, US CPA, and/or US Enrolled Agent an asset).
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in personal tax with a focus on individual cross-border taxation.
- Experience with relevant tax software (e.g. Taxprep, ProSystem fx, or similar).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax issues to non-tax professionals.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
